Eco-Hospitality Series: Session 1

On November 4th, 2019, Cines Van Dyck (Salamanca) in collaboration with the University of Salamanca presented the first session of the second edition to the series Hospitalidad en el cine europeo: Eco-hospitalidad (Hospitality in European Film: Eco-hospitality), organized by the HOSTFILM Project. Around 120 people attended this event. Prof. Paula Barba Guerrero opened this session with an introductory lecture to Zaza Urushadze’s film Tangerines entitled “Eco-hospitalidad y narrativas de invasion en Mandarinas” (Eco-hospitality and Narratives of Invasion in Tangerines). In it, she delved into the foundations of hospitality and reception theory to later analyze them from an ecological perspective. In so doing, she underlined the pressing need to rethink our relationship with the environment and the role of cinema as effective agent of change. The screening was followed by a lively discussion on the film, its underlying anti-war, environmentalist ontologies and the concept of eco-hospitality itself.
